《작은 불화》는 갖가지 복잡성 속에서 전개되고 있는 퀴어 예술을 조망하는 전시다. 본 전시를 통해서 서울과 방콕, 홍콩, 마닐라 그리고 싱가포르에서 활발하게 활동하는 젊은 퀴어, 트랜스, 논바이너리 큐레이터와 아티스트들이 모여 퀴어의 일상, 생태 그리고 정치적 문제 관련 동시대 퀴어들의 이야기를 풀어낸다. 이번 전시에 참여하는 큐레이터와 아티스트는 다양한 퀴어 라이프 양상들을 포착하고, 단순-단수형으로 그려지는 관점에 저항함으로써 퀴어 일상 생활을 불가피하게 규정짓는 충돌의 순간들을 차지하는 접점과 얽힘에 응답한다.
수렴되는 아이디어들, 온라인과 오프라인이 혼합된 사회상을 허용함으로써, 혹은 그 반대이든, 본 전시는 작업뿐만 아니라 작가, 큐레이터 그리고 모든 퍼포머가 능동적으로 참여하고 있는 어떤 얽힌 작용을 보여준다. 이번 전시는 퀴어 예술이 다양한 관심과 감수성 그리고 서로 각기 다른 접근성을 구축하는 복수형임을 보여주면서도 시스젠더 남성 헤게모니 그리고 이성애 규범에 연원을 둔 폭력의 형태들과 불화하는 퀴어-가능태, 그 이력과 미래상에 초점을 맞추며 동시대 퀴어 예술에 대해 논의해보고자 한다.
Minor Infelicities prospect queer artistic practice in all its complexity. Assembling a group of promising young queer, trans, and nonbinary curators and artists based in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and Seoul, the exhibition presents the contexts of a queer contemporary related to queer life, politics, and ecologies. The curators and artists in the exhibition capture variant aspects of queer life and resist imagining these dimensions as either simple or singular, and thus respond to the interfacing and entanglements that comprise moments of friction that inevitably define the everyday in queer social life.
In allowing ideas to converge and social lives to mingle online, offline, or otherwise, the exhibition presents the interventional agencies of the artists, the curators, and all actors involved in the planning and coordinating of the exhibition. Imagining queer artistic practice that is plural, cultivating different concerns and sensibilities and approaches, but always focused on histories and futurities of queer possibility against cis-gendered male hegemony and forms of violence rooted in gender heteronormativity, the exhibition foregrounds the potential of contemporary queer artistic practice.
